Tyrone Zybutz, a 2013 University of Sydney graduate, shares her thoughts on why DPL’s Young Dentist Conference 2014 is an event not to be missed!

“Returning again this year to Sydney is DPL’s Young Dentist Conference happening Saturday August 30. Think of this conference as an interesting, fun and relaxed way to earn yourself some CPD points, pick up useful clinical tips and career information all while enjoying the company of your peers in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

“Last year’s YDC was a massive success with a sell out crowd attending for a full day of informative and humorous talks given by Professor Tara Renton, Dr. Kevin Lewis, Mr. Vinh Giang and Dr. John McNamara. YDC 2013 offered a wide range of subject matter from oral surgery and clinical ingenuity to avoiding fear of failure and issues in endodontics. Undoubtedly, the highlight of last year’s conference was the brilliant motivational talk given by Vinh Giang combining live magic acts and humour encouraging people to strive and improve with every opportunity.

“Likewise, this year’s YDC lineup promises to combine dentally relevant and practical knowledge with inspiring and interesting stories filled with tips on how to optimize and improve your work and personal life.  The first set of speakers this year include Dr. Serpil Djemal discussing how to plan restorative and reconstructive cases for the long term and Dr. Mark O’Brien who will be offering insight on how to manage demanding and aggressive patients.  Hurry back from lunch for an engaging afternoon session with Tristan Miller who will share his personal triumphs and approach towards life in order inspire a drive for success in others. Finish off with Dr. David Sykes who will open the eyes of many a young dentist to the world of implants with an emphasis on how to avoid the common pitfalls that can be encountered in one’s first implant cases.

“The 2014 Young Dentist Conference will be held at the unique Powerhouse Museum which is worth a visit in its own right. The event is fully catered and you will have plenty of time to take a moment during the breaks to visit the tradeshow stands from sponsors featuring information about new technology and products in dentistry. The denouement of the event will be the closing party at the Powerhouse Museum’s Transport Exhibition where refreshments and nibbles will be on offer amongst the collection of vintage vehicles and aircrafts. Take this time to share stories with your old classmates of the first few years out and to meet new likeminded young dentists from across Australia.”
