Tissue Regeneration in Focus

October 31, 2020

Application of Bone and Soft Tissue Substitutes in Oral Regeneration – A Contemporary Round Table Discussion and Hands-on Workshop

The array of biomaterials now available in oral tissue regeneration can make the selection of the most appropriate material somewhat confusing and even daunting. This full-day workshop is designed to provide a contemporary review of our understanding of hard and soft tissue regeneration in the oral and maxillofacial region.
Bone and soft tissue histology and physiology will be reviewed, including the processes of inflammation, wound healing, and osseointegration. Autogenous, allogenic, xenogenic, and synthetic materials will be discussed, focussing on the advantages, disadvantages, and most appropriate indications and applications of these materials.

Hands-on exercises will be undertaken on models and pig jaws to put into practice a number of the presented concepts, including harvesting of autogenous tissues, application of xenogenic materials, and soft tissue management (i.e. flap design, tension-free primary closure, and suturing techniques).

Key topics that will be addressed include:
• Extraction Socket Management
• Guided Bone Regeneration
• Additional techniques to gain horizontal and/or vertical bone dimensions
• Techniques for increasing width of keratinised tissues with free gingival grafts and with collagen matrices
• Techniques for managing recession defects with connective tissue and with collagen matrices
• Techniques for increasing soft tissue volumes with connective tissue and with collagen matrices
• Use of biomaterials in the maxillary sinus

This course is designed for practitioners with an interest in expanding their treatment concepts for hard and soft tissue regeneration.
