Dr Kathryn Tell officially assumes the FDI presidency

At the FDI World Dental Congress held earlier this month, Dr Kathryn Kell, Iowa dentist and former American Dental Association trustee, was elected new president of the FDI World Dental Federation having spent two years as the president-elect.

She succeeds Dr Patrick Hescot from the French Dental Association.

The new president-elect is Dr Gerhard Seeberger from the Italian Dental Association who also began his mandate on 1 September. He will assume the presidency, as is FDI custom, in 2019, succeeding Dr Kell.

The recent FDI World Dental Congress, which ran from 29 August-1 September in Madrid Spain is celebrated as an important coming together of the world’s dental professionals for continuing professional development, networking and highlighting the importance of oral health.

It is also when the FDI General Assembly takes place, at which major decisions are taken by FDI’s supreme legislative and governing body, including confirmation of new FDI members and changes to governance of the organisation including the handover to the president.

The next FDI World Dental Congress will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 5-8 September 2018.
