Canon camera

by Dr Dinesh Karawgoda, Kalamunda Dental Care, WA

I purchased this camera 12 years ago and it’s been a real workhorse that produces high quality images. At the time, it was an entry level full frame camera. Prior to the 6D, if you wanted a Canon full frame, it was an expensive purchase generally used for high-end professional photography.

What’s good about it

It’s been remarkably reliable with no issues over the past 12 years. One of the highlights for me is that it works very well in low light situations. Often, with entry level cameras, if you bump up the ISO, the image can get quite grainy. The 6D produces high quality images even with a high ISO.

I use it to take before and after shots and intraoral photos. I usually pair it with a macro lens and ring flash. It has a digital display but still feels very mechanical and no firmware updates are required. It’s just a good solid camera that produces clear images.

The colours are reproduced accurately so this is very handy when photographing any cosmetic work that I do. While I may update some day, I don’t see a need to trade in this camera yet. It’s serving me well and I’m very happy with the results.

What’s not so good

The main negative is the size and weight of the camera is much larger compared to more modern models. The other issue is that the auto-focus is not that great.
