Anyone using an apex locator knows they can’t be relied on 100 per cent of the time. We take X-rays to ensure the indicated length is accurate. The E-Pex Pro is the most accurate apex locator I’ve used.
What’s good about it
In stark contrast to some other brands, when I take an X-ray, I know everything will be fine and the E-Pex Pro will be perfectly on point. It’s nice to use an apex locator you can trust. The unit is small and compact, which is a big advantage. Often there are many instruments in play during a procedure and the last thing I need is a huge apex locator taking up too much space. It comes with a long attachment so even if it is placed on the counter behind you, it’s not impacting on your workflow. The E-Pex Pro is easy to use and easy to place in any corner.
The screen displays all the information clearly. It is operated with a simple off/on and a volume button. The screen shows how close you are to the apex. It flashes and the tone changes if you should go past the apex point. It’s very useful for people like me who aren’t great with technology.
It’s a time saver as there’s no need to take multiple X-rays to find the correct apex point. This also means our patients are not exposed to unnecessary radiation. I’ve been using this unit for around three years and it’s been reliable and hardworking. There have been no breakdowns or service calls. The E-Pex Pro makes root canals more predictable, easier and faster.
What’s not so good
Like all apex locators, if there is excessive bleeding or infection, it can impact on the accuracy of the results.
