We have an ozonated water tap in the surgery to fill the patient’s cup so they can swish and rinse. It’s much more effective at killing bacteria than conventional mouthwash. The Hydrozone Ozone Rinse Tumbler is for patients to make their own ozonated water at home.
What’s good about it
The Hydrozone Tumbler makes ozonated water for home use. It’s an effective mouthwash that kills 99 per cent of bacteria, including anaerobic bacteria. The problem for patients is that ozonated water only has a half-life of 20 minutes so it can’t be bottled. It has to be made and then used almost immediately. This tumbler solves the problem for home use.
The tumbler is USB rechargeable and looks like a standard water bottle. Once it’s filled with water, it takes around 90 seconds to make 300 millilitres of ozonated water suitable for a mouth rinse. Best of all it has virtually no taste and is suitable for patients who don’t like conventional mouth rinses. It’s also way more effective.
It has two other settings: one for disinfecting mouthguards, splints, orthodontic appliances and dentures, the other to spray kitchen and bathroom benches to disinfect them without using harmful chemicals.
Ozonated water will also kill viruses and fungus. Its big advantage is that it’s effective without any chemicals that harm you or the environment. The other advantage is that there are no empty bottles and containers going to landfill. When it goes down the sink, it kills bacteria and then reverts back to oxygen and water.
It’s also perfect for travel as you just put it in your bag with no need to take mouth rinse with you.
What’s not so good
The tumbler is a little expensive to purchase but as there’s no need to buy mouth rinses or disinfectants, it pays for itself pretty quickly.
