digital scanner for use with Invisalign

by Dr Alhan Farjo, Quay Dental, Sydney, NSW

The iTero scanner is perfectly suited for Invisalign cases but I also use it for crown and bridge scanning. It’s great for restorative work, splint making and for maintaining patient records. Basically, you can use it for all your scanning needs with the added benefit that it’s designed for use with Invisalign.

What’s good about it

This is great technology to have in any dental practice. No more gooey impressions need to be taken which is more comfortable for patients, especially those with a delicate gag reflex.

It’s very accurate and the results are amazing. In the past, my crowns, bridges and splints required some adjustment. Now the fit is nearly perfect and the adjustment is very minimal.

It makes the whole process much faster. Instead of packing up models and physically mailing them, all the information is sent at the click of a button.

We scan every patient and that’s a good opportunity to educate them about the condition of their teeth. Once they’ve seen the problem, you don’t need to say much about it. Case acceptance is much higher since we’ve been using the iTero.

What’s not so good

It’s technique sensitive so there’s a bit of a learning curve. It’s important to learn how to use the features of the machine and scan the patient correctly but once you get the hang of it, it’s very fast and efficient. There’s also a monthly subscription.

Where did you get it
