Tools of the trade: Jinbei DM-5 twin head flash kit with soft boxes

by Dr Gregory Yap, Riseley Street Dental, Booragoon, WA

Traditionally, dentists use cameras with ring flashes so the light can penetrate into the mouth and they can take pictures in there. However, if you want to take high-quality external photos of patients then the Jinbei DM-5 twin flash kit will definitely produce more professional looking images.

What’s good about it

When it comes to marketing these days, you need to keep up with what’s being done at other businesses. It’s almost unheard of to have a dental practice that doesn’t have photos of their work on their website. What’s more, it’s essential to have high-quality images that shows your work in the best light.

The Jinbei DM-5 provides lighting that creates beautiful photos. It’s very versatile and the improvement in the quality of my photos was amazing. The soft boxes evenly diffuse the light of the flash so the photos are softer and without shadow. The Jinbei set-up works with any DSLR camera.

This flash unit is perfect for lighting portraits, head shots, close-ups of smiles and before-and-after photos. It’s fairly simple to use and there are a number of different courses available to get you up to speed. While it’s possible to just use the same settings with all photos, the best results happen when you understand how it all works, properly placing the unit, setting the light balance and designating the appropriate output of the flash.

What’s not so good

This flash unit is not suitable for intra-oral photos. You also need a dedicated room for photography as the unit is quite big and takes up a lot of space. We have a small studio next to our waiting room where we photograph all our patients.

Where did you get it
