We use the PROPHYflex 4 for supra- and subgingival professional tooth cleaning. It is particularly helpful for removing heavy plaque, biofilm and superficial stains before aesthetic treatments or scaling. The focused powder stream allows us to clean difficult-to-reach areas and interdental spaces quickly and effectively.
What’s good about it
The PROPHYflex 4 has great versatility and an ergonomic design. The unit is lightweight, well-balanced and easy to connect. It makes the cleaning process faster and more thorough than prophy paste. The adjustable length and 360-degree rotation of the handpiece significantly reduce operator fatigue and allow for precise application.
Patients generally respond very positively when it’s used on their teeth. With a large patient base of smokers, and coffee and tea drinkers, this has made the fast results of a clean smile very popular. Most patients tolerate the experience and enjoy the feeling of a noticeably smooth and clean tooth surface immediately afterwards.
Maintenance is simple and straightforward. It is easy to dismantle and clean, which is a major benefit in a busy practice. We’ve had other brands of air polishing units in the past and they were always getting serviced, which was a pain. PROPHYflex 4 is highly reliable and has worked faultlessly since we introduced it into the practice. It just requires regular servicing which is easy to do.
What’s not so good
It cannot be used on demineralised or sensitive surfaces, and the powder is quite expensive.
