Pola Office is a teeth-whitening system manufactured by SDI, an Australian company based in Melbourne. It’s one of several professional whitening products available that are used in some dental practices in Australia.
What’s good about it
At our clinic, we use Pola Office for in-chair whitening procedures. The product’s consistency allows it to remain on the teeth during treatment, helping to reduce the risk of material spreading to the soft tissues.
Prior to application, soft tissues such as lips, cheeks, and tongue are carefully retracted. Contact between whitening material and soft tissues can result in temporary discomfort or a burning sensation.
The whitening gel is applied in several intervals, each lasting approximately 8–12 minutes. Typically, up to three rounds are completed depending on individual needs and tolerance. Sensitivity can occur due to the presence of hydrogen peroxide, a common active ingredient in most whitening products. To assist with post-treatment comfort, a fluoride application is provided at the end of the session.
The entire procedure can be completed in under an hour. In some cases, patients may notice a visible improvement in shade. Results vary depending on the original tooth colour, type of staining, and oral health status. Ongoing home maintenance may be discussed after an in-chair session.
What’s not so good
Managing expectations is an important part of the whitening process. Teeth whitening can improve the appearance of a smile, but it does not replicate the results of other cosmetic treatments such as veneers. All whitening procedures are conducted following a dental consultation to ensure suitability and safety.
