What’s good about it
As someone who’s been using intraoral scanners for years, moving to a true cloud-based scanner has been a game changer for my workflow. Unlike traditional systems that need a dedicated cart, dongle or heavy-duty PC, this scanner only needs a fast wi-fi connection and any computer with a browser. That freedom has made it so much easier to move between surgeries—or even sites—without dragging equipment around.
The real magic is in the cloud data centre processing. Scans are not only captured quickly but processed almost instantly thanks to the computing power of remote servers. That means less waiting, smoother appointments, and more confidence in the results. Every scan is automatically stored securely in the cloud. No worries about hard drive failures, lost files or limited storage. Instead, I can log in anywhere to access cases and continue planning.
Accuracy is just as strong as the original Primescan, but with extra layers of functionality. The system includes fluorescence and near-field infrared capabilities, allowing static photos and intraoral images to be taken seamlessly during the scan. All the technology is built-in—no extra modules, no add-ons. For me, the biggest advantage is that it only needs a fast internet connection and any device with a screen and browser. It’s truly mobile; no cart, no PC, no laptop required. It can even run directly off an iPad or mobile, with easy battery swaps and no ongoing costs beyond storage.
What’s not so good
Ideally, it requires an upload bandwidth of 40 Mbps as it’s sending raw data to the cloud. This needs to be coupled with a strong wi-fi signal. It’s also on the premium pricing end of the market.
