Primescan scanner

by Dr Varadharaj Kengaiha, Lillybrook Dental, Kallangur, QLD

Primescan is an outstanding scanner that’s extremely accurate. Taking impressions has multiple ways for human error to distort the model but with Primescan, I get a perfect result every time.

What’s good about it

Taking impressions is an inefficient process that most patients dislike. Primescan is fast, accurate and the results appear almost immediately. Patients are fascinated to see the 3D scan straight away. Anything that needed an impression to be taken will have a better result with Primescan. I use it for crown prep, bridge prep, veneers, implants, planning and smile design.

Once you learn to use the unit, the entire process is fast and easy. We also have a CEREC Primemill so the workflow is smooth and integrated. We can have most procedures completed with one appointment.

A scan only takes 30 to 40 seconds, and I like to move the handpiece from one side of the mouth to the other. That’s not a requirement; you can scan in whatever way suits you. The head of the scanner is small so there are no issues with patients gagging.

Technology is moving fast and constantly improving. I think it’s worthwhile to keep abreast of the latest developments and not use outdated equipment. Primescan is reliable and has worked faultlessly since we purchased it. I have recommended this unit to all my colleagues as it helps make the workplace fast, efficient and accurate.

What’s not so good

This is an expensive unit and there are cheaper scanners on the market. I still believe Primescan is good value as the quality of the scans is so high. You get what you pay for. There is also a learning curve to operate the unit correctly.

Where did you get it
